Explore our diverse research areas, groundbreaking studies and remarkable medical research achievements
The PUMC Innovation Harbor serves as the core driving force for the institution to serve the national innovation-driven development strategy and bolster self-reliance and strength in biomedical science and technology. It aims to integrate the entire chain of medical care, education, research, and industry, building a national highland for medical innovation and translation.
Anchored by its national strategic positioning, the Innovation Harbor focuses on advancing development in four key areas: First, innovating institutional mechanisms. Benchmarking against top-tier international translation ecosystems, it establishes a novel operational model featuring independent decision-making by specialized committees, tiered revenue distribution, and dynamic project exit mechanisms. By leveraging AI to assist in project review, value assessment, and compliance risk control, it breaks down institutional barriers in traditional research translation, fully stimulating the vitality of researchers and technology managers. Second, targeting strategic tracks. Focusing on frontier areas such as proactive health and anti-aging, multi-ethnic global clinical trials, and cell therapy, it empowers target discovery, clinical trial design, and real-world studies with AI. This initiative aims to create national benchmark clinical research and translation projects, fill industry gaps, and enhance the global competitiveness of China's pharmaceutical industry. Third, building a comprehensive landscape. Transcending regional limitations, it creates a system of “headquarters coordination + specialized bases,” linking resources from institutes and hospitals across the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region and the entire country. It also deeply integrates into the pharmaceutical regulatory cooperation under “the Belt and Road Initiative”, gathering global innovation elements. Fourth, refining the capital ecosystem. Relying on market-oriented special funds as its core pillar, it links social capital and industrial forces to build a full-cycle support system that spans from early-stage incubation to industrial implementation.
Using the Innovation Harbor as a platform, the institution will serve national strategic needs, striving to establish a Chinese benchmark for medical innovation and translation, and contributing PUMC's strength to the high-quality development of the biomedical industry.
