Peking Union Medical College (PUMC) launched its continuing education programs in 1984. Aligning with the development of the New Medical Science, PUMC upholds an integrated philosophy of education, science and technology, and talent, and strengthens its leadership in continuing medical education in China. The Office of Continuing Education oversees the management and operation of continuing education across CAMS PUMC, serving as a vital component of its talent cultivation and social service system. Drawing on over a century of medical excellence, top-notch clinical faculty, and national specialty platforms, it has established a comprehensive educational framework encompassing education encompassing degree-granting education, non-degree continuing medical education, distance learning, and specialized public training programs. As a key platform for social engagement and lifelong medical education, the School of Continuing Education leverages PUMC's rich academic heritage, leading clinical disciplines, and extensive network of academicians and experts to deliver both continuing education programs with record of formal schooling and non-formal continuing medical education programs.

CAMS PUMC is home to 12 continuing medical education bases accredited by the National Health Commission of China, namely: Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), Department of Endocrinology and Metabolism of PUMCH, Imaging Technology and Diagnostic Imaging Training Center of PUMCH, Clinical and Laboratory Training Center for Rheumatology of PUMCH, Department of Gastroenterology of PUMCH, Department of Respiratory Medicine of PUMCH, Department of Cardiology of Fuwai Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of Fuwai Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Cancer Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Department of Plastic Surgery of Plastic Surgery Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Institute of Hematology and Blood Diseases Hospital Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Hospital for Skin Diseases Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences.

In 2011, CAMS PUMC was designated by the Ministry of Education as a Demonstration Base for Continuing Education in Higher Education Institutions, and in 2014 it was approved by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security as a Continuing Education Base for Professional and Technical Personnel. The School offers nationally accredited distance continuing medical education programs, and upholds PUMC's educational philosophy of "selecting outstanding students, providing excellent education, and maintaining rigorous standards for graduation." Leveraging CAMS PUMC's extensive clinical resources, it continuously enhances its curriculum and practical training system to meet the growing demand among in-service healthcare professionals for academic advancement. In doing so, it fulfills its mission of fostering lifelong professional development for medical personnel across China and contributing to the implementation of the Healthy China initiative.

The School undertakes a range of initiatives, including the Continuing Education Project for Professional and Technical Personnel, leadership programs for disciplinary leaders, capacity building programs for primary-care physicians, and rural healthcare support programs. By cultivating future leaders from top-tier hospitals while strengthening the capabilities of healthcare professionals in county-level and grassroots institutions, it delivers a tiered and targeted talent development system. The School has implemented a series of flagship programs, including leadership training for presidents of Class A tertiary hospitals and disciplinary leaders, nursing management enhancement programs, standardized specialist physician training, and systematic training for general practice educators. These programs provide healthcare executives and leading doctors from medical institutions nationwide with comprehensive instruction in advanced clinical technologies, refined hospital management, and systematic medical quality control. In response to the digital transformation of medical education, CAMS PUMC has established the PUMC Cloud Classroom, an online learning platform that supports a fully integrated distance continuing education system combining online and in-person modes. By overcoming geographical barriers, the platform delivers PUMC's high-quality courses to healthcare institutions at all levels across the country, promoting broad and equitable access to premium medical education resources.
